Installing Seawalls in Galveston
Seawalls can be more complicated than you might imagine. Each panel must penetrate a minimum of 40%-50% of the seawall bed. Sea-walls are not hammered into place, but are positioned by swirling the canal bed.
To keep the seawall off the landward side, we place deadman anchors every 10 feet. The anchors are pressed about 15 feet down into the below the surface. Otherwise prone to rust, these deadman anchors need to be made from epoxy-coated steel rebar. They are also covered with a poly pipe sleeves. The concrete cap of the seawall is sealed by sealing the end of the rebar that is attached to the seawall cap.
On most of our jobs, we pour our seawall caps on-site and then fasten the various components together. Texas Seawall Services often adds further structural skeletal support to its seawall caps by using custom-made-stirrup-shaped rebar.
